october air

one of our patients walked in for echocardiogram on monday. i think she was partially blind because the lady who was with her had to help find her way around the office. this woman's stature, behavior and voice reminded me of my grandma. it was eerie. it made me a little sad.

an hour later, i went out to grab some coffee. i walked past this older woman with, who i am assuming was, her caretaker/nurse. they walked so slowly, and it reminded me of this one time i took my grandma out for a walk to a nearby park. it was sometime mid or late october of 2009. we sat down at a bench. it must have been 7pm or so. as she held my hand, she spoke about everything that was keeping her down (her blindness, her absence of appetite and her son, amongst other family issues), but that she felt happy at that very moment -- sitting with me, getting some fresh autumn air.

her birthday is coming up in 12 days. she would have turned 92.
